After 1450 the bascinet became increasingly obsolete on European battlefields, in favour of the armet and the sallet. The Great Bascinet, quite often with a perforated visor, was retained by knights for use in tournaments fought on foot. It was used throughout the 16th century, with variations used by the retinue of Henry VIII at the tournaments at the Field of the Cloth of Gold. Surviving examples of Great Bascinets were often hung above tombs as Funerary Helmets.
Our Great Bascinet is hand crafted in Italy by time-served craftsmen. It is constructed from 20 gauge steel with a brushed finish and features a pivoting visor and buckled leather straps. This helmet is designed for display or theatrical use and is not suitable for contact re-enactment.

Our main courier is Parcel Force (Within the UK) and GLS within Europe. Shipping is calculated by the volumetric weight of the product(s) ordered. The volumetric weight calculates how much room your order will take up in the courier’s plane/van and a price is worked out accordingly.
