This medieval mace was part of the original collection of the British Museum, bequeathed by Sir Hans Sloane in 1753. Sloane had a small collection of weapons and this mace was one of his important medieval items. It was discovered in Windsor, and may have originally been kept at Windsor Castle. The origin of the ring on the shaft is unknown and may have been used for to mount the weapon for display.

Our English Mace is crafted from high carbon steel and, although robust, is better suited to display. The pointy flanges mean that this item is not suitable for re-enactment but is great for living history.
