Classic Bastard Sword
This is an especially fine interpretation of a classic hand and a half, Oakeshott type XVIIIb sword. Weapons designed for thrusting only did not meet the requirements of modern warfare by the 15th century, and blades that delivered more forceful cuts were developed. These longer swords were especially popular in Germany (opponents were probably less fond of them)... The hilt is also typical because its components – the type I, riveted wheel pommel, leather wrapped wooden grip and lightly curved crossguard – are 100 percent period. Over 90 cm long, the blade has a slight taper and comes to a rounded point. Our classic bastard sword comes with a matching black leather scabbard that includes a mount and chape.
