Red Dragon Combat – Oakeshott XIV Sword

The latest addition to the Red Dragon Combat range of swords is our Oakeshott XIV Sword. It is a replica of an original that is currently on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Oakeshott describes it as being “an absolutely outstanding sword, not only because of its condition but by reason of its splendid proportions and great size. It dates from around the first quarter of the 14th century and is remarkably similar to sword found on the body of Sancho IV el Bravo of Castile in Toledo Cathedral.
The pommel is cast in solid bronze (like the original) and features the words “SUNT HIC ETIAM SUA PRECUNE LAUDI” which is interpreted as “Here also are the heralds of his praise”. The grip is made from wood and wrapped with leather just like the well preserved original. The durable steel guard also follows the proportions of the original sword. Its high carbon EN42J Spring Steel blade has been forged and tempered to perform its historical counterpart and tapers strongly from the guard to the tip. It has a core hardness of 45HRC approx. with an edge hardness of 50HRC approx. The 2mm edges are suitable for blade on blade work (not re-eneactment safe) but are better suited to being sharpened. A well-made wood lined leather scabbard with integrated leather belt is included. Definitely one of the nicest swords we’ve ever handled!

Our main courier is Parcel Force (Within the UK) and GLS within Europe. Shipping is calculated by the volumetric weight of the product(s) ordered. The volumetric weight calculates how much room your order will take up in the courier’s plane/van and a price is worked out accordingly.
