This short sword belongs to the group of swords that Oakeshott classified as XIV type. Widespread in the Late Middle Ages, they were primarily designed to be used against opponents wearing armor.
The blade is characteristically wide at the base and ends in an acute point. In conjunction with the dramatic, wheel-shaped pommel, the fuller ensures outstanding balance and a surprisingly low weight. The grip of our XIV medieval short sword is made of wood wrapped with leather. Its wheel pommel is riveted and has a cavity at the center with space for an insignia or jewel.
