The Scramasax (Wounding-Knife in Frankish) is a Seax (Knife in Old English) used by the Saxons, whose name is derived from this weapon. Originally they started out as a secondary weapon to be used in conjunction with swords and spears etc but over time they became longer and narrower and became a primary fighting weapon. One of the most famous seaxes to be found is Britain is the Seax of Beagnoth which is now on display in the British Museum.
