Our classical Greek muscle armour is crafted from 18 gauge steel with a painted black finish and features hinged lynch pin style brass fastenings and decoration. It comes complete with separate decorated leather pteruges (apron). It is great for fancy dress and film/stage work and will fit up to around a 50” chest.

The muscle cuirass first appears in Archaic Greece and became widespread during the 5th and 4th centuries BC. It is commonly depicted in art or the period and is worm by Generals and Emperors wore highly decorated cuirasses as a sign of status. Examples from the 5th century BC have been found in the tombs of Thracian cavalrymen. Muscle Cuirasses were worn by both the Greeks and the Romans – the latter being reserved for senior officers only. Traditionally they were made from 2 pieces of bronze that were hammered to shape – but they could also be made from moulded leather.
