Roman Tunic - Wool
Made of thick wool dyed to a deep red, this tunic is a must for the serious Roman reenactor or anyone wanting authentic looking Roman garb. Tunics similar to this were worn by both civilians and Roman legionaries. While civilians would wear them hanging straight down to their knees, soldiers would wear them ''bloused'' up with a belt so the bottom was at about the mid-thigh length. This look was part of what distinguished a soldier, and they took it very seriously. So much so, that a common form of military punishment for minor offensives was to be forced to stand at attention without a belt. This caused the tunic to hang to the knees and was considered very humiliating to the soldier.
