Practical Plus Tanto

The Practical Plus Tanto (SH2259) matches our Practical Plus Katana (SH2073) and Wakizashi (SH2118). The blade is hand-forged at Hanwei of high-carbon steel and differentially hardened using a traditional claying method (HRC 60 edge, HRC 40 spine). The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. The flat black saya features a black cotton sageo. The tsuka has genuine ray skin (same) with a black synthetic leather tsuka-ito for better gripping qualities. The antiqued fittings on this set are decorated in a Japanese dogwood motif with a beautiful antiqued black sunburst tsuba.

Please note: Due to the hand-made nature of this product, the handle wrap can vary from three to four diamonds. Our range of katana, wakizashi and tantō are all made by hand and will feature the minor imperfections relating to this method of manufacture. This process ensures each piece is as unique as their historical counterparts. The main focus of the Practical Range is the blade. The fittings, although well made, do not have the same attention to detail found on more expensive lines. The Ito (handle wrap) may have a different number and proximity of diamonds to those shown in the picture.
