The buckler is a defensive weapon used since the 12th century and it was in use until the 18th century. It is well known that a light and resistant buckler was sought in the civilian environments, able to withstand the attack of the weapons, lighter than those used in war. The boiled leather buckler appears in many written references that talk about the piece itself (Cuir bouilli). This piece has proven to be a perfect balance between protection and lightness.

This mode has in its centre a shield boss of steel which has 2 mm of thickness rimmed by a piece of hardened leather of 9 mm and fixed by 4 rivets; thus achieving a sturdy and extraordinary piece for both defence and attack.

The piece comes with a steel grip and is topped with rosewood with brass rivets. We can find this kind of decoration in similar pieces of that time like knives because it was a typical style among weapons of this type.

Please note: Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture. The steel is untreated and may have rust. To protect the steel you may rub it with mineral or synthetic oil.

This item is made of natural leather. It may have small marks on its surface, it might have imperfections or won´t be 100% homogeneous. Roughness and colour may vary from piece to piece. The dying process is made using traditional techniques so final colour may vary depending on the leather´s original tone.

Buy the Leather Buckler with confidence from the UK’s leading medieval buckler retailer.

* Leather is a natural product therefore there could be some variants in colour and differences from piece to piece.
